The only way to breach the contract/warranty is by altering the firmware of the device. You can visit a local phone service shop and if the modem is compatible, they will flash a firmware. However, if you will have to restore the device, then payment for damages will be asked.
Try contacting the carrier and ask them what is necessary to close the contract. Maybe they will do it for free and then you can use the device with any other network.
