If the software is using a driver to connect to the machines, then you need to check the Device Manager to see if it's installed properly. You can do this using Start > Run > devmgmt.msc. In case there is a yellow item listed, then it means something is not working properly. Right click it and choose Update Driver then follow the instructions. Additionally, re-install the application, because there is a chance the database where the information is stored to be corrupted. Reinstalling might fix the errors with the database as well.
