You can get the balance or the available credit with a USSD code, but this can be done if the software supports calling USSD codes. In some situations, you can simply open the application that accompanies the modem and the cost/credit should be displayed in the Info panel.
Since this code is different from carrier to carrier , I recommend contacting the ones you've got the SIM card from. They will provide all the necessary details regarding balance check.
