It's impossible to unlock the phone if it's not rooted. Root gives you access to the system files from where you can delete the file with the password. Additionally, visit a local phone service shop and they will remove the password without removing the custom content (music, images, apps, etc). I recommend this way because they have a custom hardware box that can access the system memory without damaging files.
