How to read msi files on Linux?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 32bit. Is there a tool that read msi files and output the data in a txt file?

The "metadata" of a MSI file is a simple xml file with the text data. On Linux you can use any text editor available for the platform you use. If you don't have a text editor installed on the operating system I suggest you follow these simple steps in order to get your desired text editor so you can open the file:

  1. Start the Terminal application which is found in the Start menu
  2. Gain root by using sudo su and type in your user password
  3. Enter apt-get install gedit command and confirm by selecting Y(es)
  4. Start the application from your menu in Desktop mode, and load the metadata file and edit it accordingly.
