Theoretically, yes, the applications are the same. Although, the main software works by default as stand-alone on compatible devices, while the emulator gives you an overview how the software works. The main application is installed in emulation mode in a virtual machine (eg. VMWare). You have the possibility to connect with Putty to check its parameters and settings.
