The error is encountered because the phone can't reach the download servers. To fix it, switch to another Internet connection (preferably Data, because WiFi is known to give errors). Attempt to download the application again, but before doing this, access Google Play Store and Google Play Services from Menu > Settings > Applications Manager > App. Locate the apps and tap on each one, then choose Clear Data & Clear Cache. Reboot the phone and attempt to download the app again.
