Conversion of old Quicktime files.

I'm a new Mavericks system user. I tried to open my .mov file from my old Quicktime .mov file (Quicktime 7) and now I have version 10.3, but there's no thumbnail, and when I click play it always converts the file. Does it mean that I have to convert all my old version .mov files? If yes, can I open or share these newer version .mov files to the lower versions?

If you have old versions of MOV files created with QuickTime 7, then these files will be converted and adapted for playing on the newer operating system. You can convert them to the new format but you can't go backwards after this process. When opened in Quicktime 7, you will either receive an unsupported file format message or you will need to upgrade to the latest Quicktime version in that OS.
