I purchased Corel Video Studio X4 and I am unable to save a video file to look better on my large screen TV. What file format is the best option?

It all depends on what is the format of your TV. If you have a widescreen TV, then you need to use Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 to save in a compatible wide resolution, one you have to match with the TV's supported resolutions. Recommended is to save to 1920 x 1080 (FULL HD) resolution but that increases the file size, however, it's recommended that this resolution is the best for HD/FULL HD/LED TV's.
