When I attempted to uninstall this program it ripped through a lot of my critical software and erased it. I now have hours of work ahead of me to restore my computer. What did you do to cause this to happen?

This application is provided by a known company. This means that from this point of view, is at least safe. The problem comes if there were another applications bundled. According to studies and user surveys, ~70 % of computers get infected with malware and trojans via installation bundles.

Try running a copy of Combofix to remove malware from your computer.
