If you have issues opening the file, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program, select Microsoft Office from the list, click the Change/Repair button next to Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions. After that, reboot your computer, launch Excel and from the File menu select Open. From the drop-down list next to the File Name field select All Excel Files and open the .xls document.
