Connection failed while attempting to connect to cameras.

Why is it that when I'm in the building on this WiFi I can monitor my cameras, but when I get home I'm getting a "Connection failed" message?

The reason why you can't access the cameras at home is because of the local IPs or permission. For example, certain devices are configured to allow access from the internal network. Secondly, your CCTV cameras might be using a local IP that's not routed through a static one in order to access it from an outside source. To enable remote connections, contact your local IT Administrator from work to enable support for them and you'll have the possibility to connect afterwards.
