Unfortunately, you will need a new battery for the device. The software is configured to display external charging when it cannot detect the battery's condition. You can buy one battery from Ebay or Amazon. They are pretty cheap. Another possibility is to try to update it because this could also be a bug in the software. Connect to a WiFi network and search for updates.
