Confusing Mini DisplayPort with Thunderbolt.

Is Thunderbolt Port same as Mini DisplayPort? Can I use Mini DisplayPort cable to connect Macbook Air 2013 to a projector?

Yes, thunderbolt port is the same as Mini DisplayPort only that it's faster and it allows you to connect powerful high end devices to your Apple product. Just connect the cables or devices to this port because it will work just like a Mini DisplayPort.
