If you have the installation disc, you can apply a compatibility setting. For example, right click the installer application and choose Troubleshoot compatibility then follow the onscreen indications. If done correctly, Windows 8 will adjust the settings and it will try to run the installer in its environment with Windows XP settings applied. From that point further, everything should be easy and the procedure needs to be done for executable launcher, also. If this still doesn't work, you might want to install a virtual machine with Windows XP to be able to run the game properly. I'd recommend VirtualBox in this case, it supports Windows 8.
