Find my phone on the iPhone only work if the app is never closed out. How can I keep it running permanently?

I have an android and my fiance had an iPhone. We both installed "Find my phone". But when he closes out all his apps on the iPhone (to save his battery life) it stops tracking his phone and I can't see his new location. Is there a way to keep the app running always even if its closed out?

After you press the home button on iPhone, the application goes into background. If you tap the home button twice you will have the possibility to end the application. If you do this, you can't reach the phone anymore because it has been force closed. The advice is to send the application in the background to keep it running. This is the only way to track the phone.
