How to hook up dual monitors?

I have just purchased a desktop computer with Windows 7. I hooked up an analog splitter for dual monitors but the computer will only show one. My PC is a Thinkcentre M series.

A splitter needs connecting to the back of the VGA/DVI port. Once you do this, you can attach two display devices through the ports available on the splitter.

Wrong: Computer > Monitor > Splitter > Monitor
Correct: Computer> Splitter > Monitor 1 + Monitor 2

Alternatively, press Windows KEY + P to select the way signal multiplied on the other display.
