Installation of Free Pos Software

I recently downloaded the brilliant POS software but seem not to be able to unlock all the options. I wanted to use the software without a cash register, but I cannot make things happen, can I?

Please advice what the most logical (and easy) steps would be to fully unlock the potential of the POS software?

I am afraid that the availability of a cash register is a must. The program can't function if it doesn't detect the cash register. The options will be available when you connect one.
