Transfer of contents/music to iPod from PC and vice-versa.

I want to transfer music from PC to iPod.

Apple Software Update is not the right application to be used for such operations. This updates the Apple products installed or attached to your PC. If you want to transfer music from PC to iPod and vice-versa, you need to install iTunes. The file manager is used for all operations regarding audio playing, file handling, software and firmware update, etc.
