Problems with Realtek USB 11g/n connector.

I've been trying to reinstall my Realtek USB 11g/n connector since reinstalling Windows XP. Although the driver and utilities have apparently been successfully installed from the disc, the icons shows:

a) No Realtek 11n USB wireless LAN.
b) Ralink wireless LAN card does not exist.

When I put the drive in the USB port, the configuration utility does not start either, nor does it launch from the desktop icon. It flashes and disappears. What can I do?

In order to fix the issue, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound, open Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters list, right-click on the driver and select Update Driver Software. Insert the installation disc in the CD/DVD drive and then use the Browse option to navigate to the package. Select the driver and install it following the on-screen instructions. After that, reboot your computer, connect the USB device and press Scan for hardware changes icon from Device Manager.
