You will have to turn on files extensions.

In Windows XP or Windows 7:
1. Open control panel
2. Open Folder Options
3. Choose the View tab across the top
4. Look for the line “Hide Extensions for Known File Types”
5. Remove the Check from the box
6. Press Apply
7. Then OK

In order to repair your Excel files, open Microsoft Office Excel and from the File menu select Open. Navigate to your corrupted files, select them and from the Open drop-down menu select Open and Repair:

After that, if Excel cannot open the file, select Extract Data. You can do the same with all Microsoft Office programs. Alternatively, you can check Software Informer database for a repairing program.
