When I attempt to play 1701 AD I get the following error message: "ANNO 1701 Unable to successfully initiate Direct3D". How do I correct that? I have Windows 2000 on my computer.
Go to the installation folder, open the engine.ini file with WordPad or Notepad and search for the lines:
< ScreenXSize > 1680 < /ScreenXSize > < ScreenYSize > 1050 </ScreenYSize>
Instead of 1680 you need to enter 1024 and instead of 1050 enter 768.
I tried that and it still does it. I tried installing directx10 as well but it says I already have the latest version. I just brought this game as part of a package.
