I receive an "Unknown Error" from Smart Panel. What can I do?

I have downloaded the trial version of Smart Panel for my Epson Perfection 1260 and installed it in my Windows Vista computer. As soon as I click to open the application I get the "Unknown Error" message. I have tried to clear up my computer of any trace of Smart Panel a couple of times and I re-download and re-installed it, but I still get the same error. What can I do?
