For the touchscreen to work you will need to install corresponding drivers. This procedure applies to Windows XP only. In Windows Vista and superior Windows versions touchscreen drivers are installed automatically but that doesn't mean it's necessary to make it work because additional software needs to be installed to configure smartgestures and other useful features. Download the required software from the Asus support website that was made specifically for your laptop, or use the CD that came with the laptop, and install drivers from the CD.
