PPTP was secure prior to October 2012 when Microsoft issued a statement that the protocol is no longer supported on Windows and it's vulnerable to attacks. Although it's no longer required, many private networks still choose this way of connecting in combination with security options that are still available along with this protocol. A reliable password and good security options could still make this protocol hardly breakable.
