Please restart your computer and continuously press F8 until the service menu appears. Select "Last Known Good configuration that worked" and let Windows restart then try to perform the same operation again to see if you encounter the same error. If the same error appears, you might need to perform a recovery of your OS or even a reinstallation.

You can perform Recovery/Repair with the installation CD of the operating system. You just needs to boot from it and then follow the on-screen instructions.
