Most likely, the toolbar is rogue and it needs to be disabled. You can disable the toolbar using the Extensions/Add-ons or Manage Add-ons section. All these leads are from the modern browsers released (Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer). Once you disable the toolbar, you can type in the address bar as usual. If you find the toolbar as being intrusive, you can delete it and your browser's settings will return to normal ones.
