My Nokia 500 mobile switches off when I try to insert a SIM card

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Why is it so?

Probably it is caused by a hardware error or the phone is configured in such a way that other SIM cards except the one that was originally attached are rejected. You should go to the local phone service.
