Converting involves reducing quality of the picture by setting a lower resolution. You can use XnView to convert your photos. Simply download the application and open the image you want to convert, then use Image > Resize and enter a lower resolution other than the one that's actually in the resize box. The quality will barely be noticeable, but it will not be as the original one.
