Using Norton Commander in Windows 7.

In the very old computer with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1, there existed something like Norton Commander at the start-up of the system. Columns with files on the blue background were split into two windows. How to set up this program on the Startup, when there is Windows 7 on the C: drive? Where on the hard drive is the file I'll need to edit so I can choose the drive to boot from? How can I format a partition?

Norton Commander was a file manager application that was developed for MS-DOS. Because the newer versions of Windows like Windows 7 aren't MS-DOS based anymore, there is no utility to use the old version of Norton Commander. You can take a look at WinNc or Total Commander. You can run these programs from Windows and they have the same functionality as the old version of NC.

Depending on your computer, you can enter the boot menu by pressing the F8 key when the Windows splash screen begins to load. By doing this, you will access the boot menu which will allow you to select a drive to boot from. To format a partition, you can use the Windows installer disk or a tool like GParted.
