thanks I've tried several without success. I seem to have tif files that have incorrect tags. Imagemagig does not recognise them.
I'll try tiffsplit and gscan2pdf

tried one with gscan2pdf it give the following errors (not all copied)
It looks like its missing a header page ore something like that. The file opens ok in windows with
