Sonant 1.2.3 Push to Talk doesn't work on MacOS Catalina 10.15.6

It's not just us. A number of practitioners here in Canada have reported similar behaviour.

We have deleted old versions and reinstalled Sonant 1.2.3 many times. The hardware is a new MacBook Air, 2020 model. It was recently upgraded from an old MacBook pro running High Sierra where Sonant worked fine.

Not only does Sonant not respond to push-to-talk (the lips don't turn red) but does not allow configuration of the push to talk key (which defaults to command). It ignores all key presses, leading me to believe it is not properly sensing the keyboard.

Curiously, the lips will turn red when using volume or SNR sensing, rather than push-to-talk, again telling me there is something wrong with your keyboard interface.

FIX:

  1. Run Sonant (click “Allow” if asked, etc.)

  2. Run MacOS System Preferences

  3. Click on Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility
3.1.At the bottom, left of this window, look for a padlock icon. If it appears “locked,” click it, and enter your Mac’s login password to unlock it.
    3.2. Checkmark Sonant

  4. In the left-side column of this same window, click on “Microphone” and checkmark Sonant.

  5. Close and restart Sonant

If the Sonant icon is not visible on either of these screens, click the “+” button, then navigate to the Applications folder, select Sonant (blue icon), and click “Open.” Now checkmark Sonant as described above.

Before jumping to step 5, you will need to get to "Accessibility" tab and checkmark Sonant too. Next step, restart Sonant and now you'll be able to choose any key for "push-to-talk". Cheers
