You can store the file where you want or believe it's safe. I would personally store the file on another partition in its own folder and then load the software and load the file from that location or simply start the application and store the file on that folder directly. That way any changes you will make will be saved to that location as well without doing anything from your part. This is how most of the applications work in these conditions.
I've checked ScorePost and it appears that you can store an offline version of the database where you want it.
