Firstly, the software needs to be stopped. To do so, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc and switch to the Processes tab. Locate the application running in the background, then right click it and choose End Task.
At this point, the app is now closed completely unless it installed through a service, but that shouldn't prevent your from closing it. Continue the uninstall process to completely delete it.
