You need to have the exact file that is compatible with the version that you had on the computer that was stolen. These accounting applications have strange requirements when you want to open a file. Some allow you to open files that have been created in a previous version and others require full conversion or don't support this operation at all.
Your file might be corrupted, and because of that the program gives you errors. Try loading a backup of the company to see if it loads.
