There was no driver update since year 2011, therefore it's normal for this to happen when there is no support for the printer and when it comes to Apple and driver support for third party devices, it's even worse. For example, you won't have the possibility to use the device if there is actually no driver or update released. Yes, it might work for a couple of versions, but at some point the device will stop working.
