Why does the DVD, that I burned, play only on the laptop and not my DVD player for my television? What file type is playable on most Home DVD players? And how do I go about changing those files types?

I believe that you need to finalize them. That is in a multi-session format it needs to be closed called finalizing then no more can be written. When you finalize a special system file is appended at the end. Without it can only be viewed on PC. Could that possibly be the reason?

You have to consult the manual of your DVD player to see what are the supported files and codecs. For PC, a simple video player can have support for a wide range of video and audio formats, but a physical device might be limited. Based on the information you find about your DVD player, create a DVD and make sure to use apps like Nero or Ashampoo to properly select the contents of that DVD.
