Question

My package installer is disabled, I cannot delete it and reinstall it. I have backed this up and cannot reinstall it because the same permission is needed to do this action.

Is the only way I can delete this disabled package - through rooting my device and uninstalling the package, then reinstalling the backed up package? But then will I have the problem of not being able to install the backed up package installer, because I have just uninstalled the original one needed to do this? Or does it work differently from that?

As far as I know the package installer is a vital component to the Android operating system. Without it you will have no way of installing new apps using the normal way. At this point you will need to root your device. After it's rooted, place the package installer APK in the /system/app and reboot the phone. If it's not deodexed, it should work straight away and the next time you use an APK, the package installer will appear. Alternatively, flash the firmware again or perform a factory reset which will restore the files on your device.
