Card readers are used to read contents of removable cards (miniSD, SD card, Compact Flash, MMC, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Pro Duo). The reader is built-in especially to laptop devices because of its portability. Also these readers can be attached to a desktop computer using a USB cable. In case you do not have a reader device installed on your laptop, then there is no need to keep them and you should remove the corresponding software using Add & Remove Programs from your Control panel.
