In most of the cases, the problems with scanning is related to drivers and their installation. Unfortunately, the Lexmark website is known to have the drivers missing from the download page on their products which means it's impossible to install it this way. I recommend removing any driver you might have installed. Reboot the PC, and then connect the scanner to another port and use the automatic driver download method to install the device. If after the installation doesn't work, then it means the problems is physical and needs servicing at a local printer/scanner service shop. If it's still in warranty, send it to the one you purchased from.
