This happens because the browser is not configured correctly. You will have to go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program. Click remove on the browser you frequently use and then use REPAIR. This will fix the links and the association. To make it even simpler, download a new version of the browser from its official website and then re-install it over your current one. It should fix the problems with registry and file association as well.
