It says FREE all over the software. But after I install it the first thing it does is to ask for a registration serial number. On their site you can only buy the software. So, is it still free? What is the deal?
The software is actually free. When you click Download it asks you for your name and email. After you fill those fields, an email will be dispatched to your email address. As you will see below, it contains the registration number.

You need to pay for the software to get the registration serial number.
