Yahoo has informed me that they closed my account for inactivity. I'm on a Mac using mail and don't need to go in there often as mail is sent on. It just refuses to accept password and ID. Can someone help please?

Even if you use 3rd party clients to access email, you still have to log-in on the website once in a while. Failing to do so will result in closing the account. The send/ receive operation doesn't count as activity when other 3rd party applications are involved.

Try starting the recovery process, because you are the only one who has access.

When an account is deactivated, you won't be able to access it, regardless of whether or not email has been received in the account during that time.
And sorry, but you can't retrieve any of the information that was formerly stored in it.
You will lose access to your Yahoo! ID, Yahoo! Mail, and profile names. yahoo will also delete your account data and settings across the Yahoo! network. This includes any contents in:
Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! Address Book
Flickr
Yahoo! HotJobs
GeoCities
Yahoo! Briefcase
My Yahoo!
Yahoo! Groups
Finance Portfolio
