I have been using a purchased version of ACT!2000 for several years. I purchased a new computer running Windows 7 and when I installed my files in the new computer I can't use the word processor. Is there a fix for this?

This product has been discontinued, meaning that it doesn't have support for Windows 7. The software was released for Windows XP, without Windows 7 support. This means you will have issues with the application on Windows 7. However, right click the application and choose Windows XP from the Compatibility tab, then run it as Administrator and there might be a chance to use the word processor. Unfortunately, there is no other fix available except this one.

The first time I clicked on Write-Letter in ACT! 2000 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit I got the following message:

"Failed to connect to word processor: ACT! Word Processor. The Word Processor driver is not running."

To correct that I sent the ACT! 2000 icon to the desktop:

  1. Right click on ACT! 2000 icon
  2. Select Send To
  3. Click on Desktop (create shortcut)

Then did the following:

  1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon
  2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program as an Administrator
  3. Click OK

or you can do this which also works:

  1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon
  2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program in Compatibility mode for:
  3. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3) (both of them work)
  4. Click OK
