Information about System Maintenance GL.

What is System Maintenance GL? Do I need it? How did I get it? What does it do? I just started noticing an icon that appears at start-up, if I click it (before it disappears) it says 'System Maintenance GL is up and running' also, sometimes a pop-up appears with stern warning 'System Maintenance GL -- update required -- update now (with button to click to start update). Is this a virus? Possible malware? Do I need to get rid of it?

This application is used to update the applications from the System Maintenance website. There is no information about being a malware application or something related. It has been installed through other software's installer. However, you should remove it in case it has no use to you. Use Revo Uninstaller. Even if it can't uninstall the application normally, it will force it to uninstall by wiping out all traces of its presence from the system.
