There are plenty of applications created to cut and join videos. The simplest way to do it is through the database of Software Informer or Mac Informer. Access the page (Mac results)and download an application then load your movie. Everything should be straight forward afterwards. Simply load the movie, mark the cut time and then mark the end time and save the portion of the video to your hard drive. To join two videos, simply load the videos, select the JOIN feature and save the output.

You can use one video cutter free from this list, which contains 11 different options. However, there are mainly used to cut videos. Some come with ability to merge videos from the same source or from other files. If you just want freeware, I think most free online video joiners can work.

Now back to talking about myself, I use Joyoshare video joiner to combine unlimited video files, which at the same time can cut videos easily. However, it's low-budget with a free trial version.
