How can I change default cursor in smoothdraw 4.1

How do you change the color of the background?

I am using my touch screen laptop (Lenovo) to create on Smoothdraw. When I motion up or down, the canvas moves instead of any lines being drawn.

I cannot figure out how the 'Draw with Stencil' function works, or even what its purpose is. Can anyone explain this to me?
