also, is this still being updated or is this an outdated program and 8.7 is as new as it is ever going to be?

I downloaded the demo to try with my Passap E6000 knitting machine. I understand there is a limit to the usage, but my problem is that as a demo I'm apparently not allowed to connect it to my machine.
