VWA Viewer is an old product. You can try to use Compatibility settings but I am not sure if the program will work correctly. The problem with applications like these, is that even if they run correctly, their functionality is put at risk because not all components are compatible with Windows 8. This may lead to serious functionality issues.
Alternatively, you can use VirtualBox to install a version of Windows prior to 8/8.1 and run the application emulated into the virtual machine. It's easier and the setup is user-friendly.
