What happens to the WhatsApp data if the phone is formatted?

I have an Android phone. My question is whether the WhatsApp will loose all its data if the phone is formatted or will I be able to retrieve the data , images and everything related to it?

If you are deleting the /data, /system, & /storage partitions, then yes, the WhatsApp data will be removed, however, if you're performing a Factory Reset, WhatsApp will be deleted, but the data will be stored allowing you to use it next time WhatsApp is installed.
